Giant Yellow Strawflowers are a an easy to grow summer annual. Strawflowers, or Helichrysum, are great for dried flower projects and also fresh arrangements. For drying purposes cut the flower heads while they are still tight buds. Hang them upside down in a cool place to dry for several weeks. The stems can sometimes be weakened during the drying process and the addition of a floral wire before hanging will give the stem added support.
Strawflower will grow and bloom best with at least 6 hours of strong sunlight. The plants grow tall- up to 3-4 feet. I pinch plants back a few times while young to keep plants bushier. Helichrysum is drought tolerant once established.
