Baptisia australis Seeds Blue False Indigo Native Plant Seeds Great for Pollinator Gardens

Blue False Indigo is a great native plant for home gardens. Baptisa australis is perennial in zones 4-9. The plant has delicate blue green foliage. In late May (in my zone 6 garden) tall spires of bluish purple flowers appear. The tall flower stalks are a wonderful addition to cut flower arrangements.

Baptisa australis is not a fussy garden plant. Grow in full sun and well drained soil. It does resent being moved so choose a spot where it can put it's roots down. Plants grown from seed can take 2-3 years to reach blooming height. When mature the plant can grow 3-4 ft. tall and 3 ft. wide. It may be slow to establish but will get prettier with each growing season. It is a native, prairie plant and is fairly drought tolerant once established.

Baptisia may be a little tricky to start from seed for a beginner gardener. All seeds come with complete growing and seed starting instructions. There is also much additional information on the internet, much of it conflicting! I will include the germination method that I have found to work the best.
