TITLE

Amsonia tabrenaemontana is also known as Willow-Leaved Blue Star. This easy to grow perennial garden plant has flat leathery foliage and sky blue flowers in late spring. The clump forming plants will grow 2-3 feet tall. Light blue flower clusters appear in late April followed by pointed brown seed pods. Amsonia is prized for its vibrant yellow fall foliage. Flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies. Deer typically leave this plant alone as Amsonia tabernaemontana contains a milky sap. Each packet contains a minimum of 40 seeds from last year's garden. Seed orders come with complete growing instructions.

The habitat for this Ozark native plant is moist open woods or roadsides. I grow Amsonia in full sun and well drained soil. It can take dry conditions but will look nicer with regular watering. It is a very low maintenance plant. This is a great plant to use in naturalistic or prairie style plantings. Arkansas Blue Star is hardy in zones 4-8. Amsonia tabernaemontana was featured in the Regional Picks Oct. 2014 issue of Fine Gardening Magazine.
