Red flowering Asclepias curassavica is a favorite host plant for Monarch butterflies. The bright flowers provide nectar for the adults while the foliage feeds the young larvae. This listing is for 25  seeds of the Scarlet/Orange Tropical Milkweed. Asclepias curassavica is the tropical milkweed from South America.

**There has been recent controversy surrounding the tropical milkweeds affecting the health of Monarch Butterflies. In areas where the plants do not die to the ground each winter they can become infected with a fungus that is hazardous to the butterflies. The plants should  be pulled each season and started over with fresh plants grown from seed.

This plant is easy to grow from seed. It is winter hardy in zones 9-11. I start seed early in the spring so I have plants ready to go when the weather warms up. I use this plant for my mixed container plantings. It is great for a taller focal point plant in large pots. Can grow 3-4 ft. I pinch my growing tips out early in the season for a bushier plant.

Tropical Milkweed blooms continuously through the summer. Hummingbirds also love the red flowers. Plants will bloom in partial sun but really thrive in full sun. Can take dry conditions but will always look better with regular watering.

All seeds come packaged in kraft paper envelope with complete growing instructions.

NOTE: Milkweeds are poisonous. Always use caution when planting near pets and children. Some people find the milky sap to be a skin irritant.
